If you have submitted your application then below information could be useful for you.

Generally, your application will follow the below path after the submission of your PR application.

An important note:- This is the trend which is happening with most of the applicants. It may or may not match your application process flow and timeline. The actual clarity of application status can be retrieved via GCMS notes only.

“Mass BG status change on 27th Feb”

  1. BG Check: Not Applicable (NA1)
  2. Medical passed – (MEP)
  3. BG Check In Progress (IP1) – R10 check is done here.
  4. BG Check: Not Applicable (NA2) – Eligibility check is done here.
  5. BG Check: In Progress (IP2) –
  6. BG Check: Not Applicable (NA3) – Sometimes this doesn’t come
  7. PPR: Passport Request
  8. CoPR: Confirmation of Permanent Residence

So it is in below order

AOR – NA1 – MEP – IP1 – NA2 – IP2 – NA3 – PPR – CoPR

AOR: This is a letter you will get within 24 hours after submission of your PR application.

NA1: “Not applicable“. This will be your BG status message as soon as you submit and get AOR.  Typically, this will be status till the time you get your medical passed status.

MEP: “You passed the medical exam“. This will generally happen after approx 10-15 days after your AOR. For PNP applicants it can take more time generally.

IP1:  This will happen one or two days after your medical. Sometimes on the same day itself. BG status message in this stage will be “Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check.”. CIC agents will do R10, criminality checks during this stage. Once they feel everything is good then they will change it to NA. These things will happen at CIO Office (Centralized Intake Office).

NA2: “Not applicable“. This will signify that IP1 is completed. Sometimes IP1 will take a few hours and if we have not checked our account during the time it was in IP1, it won’t be possible to know that we are in NA1 or NA2. Our file will be transferred to CPC (Case Processing Center) where agents will do eligibility assessments. If they feel everything is okay, then they will provide their recommendation to Visa Officer and the same time they will initiate Security Checks.

IP2: BG status message in this stage will be “We are processing your background check. we will send you a message if we need more information.“. Visa Officer starts reviewing or after reviewing all agents recommendations. PPR mail will be triggered if the applicant paid RPRF up front. PPR mails these days are taking 7-20 days after you are in IP2 stage.  These things will be done at the CPC office.

Generally, messages will be like below in IP2 status:

status

NA3: “Not applicable“. This will signify that IP2 is completed. This status is not visible in many cases and direct PPR request is placed from IP2.

PPR: Passport Request. You will get an email for that and you may not get an update in your CIC account for this. VFS procedure for India PPR is After PPR – a procedure at INDIA VFS

ADR: Sometimes an additional document is requested in IP1 or IP2 stage. An email, as well as message in your CIC account, will be sent.

  1. Hi,

Appreciate if you can provide some advice about the status reflecting in my account. My timeline is as follows:

    AOR :: 15 Jun 2017
    Medical passed :: 15 July 2017
Additional documents (PCCs from all countries lived) requested :: 19 Jul 2017
    Documents submitted :: 31 Aug 2017

Now the status about BC says that the application is under process.Does that mean the application is in IP1 stage ?

My application type is FSW. What could be the next steps and probable time when I can get PPR ?

    Thanks a lot.

  3. Hello, I have submitted an in-land CEC Application on October 1st, 2017. Got AOR same day. Since then, my application hasn’t obviously changed as it’s only been few days. Nevertheless, I’m concern that I only pay for the processing fee and not the RPRF. Should I go ahead a pay this now ? or just wait for the officer to contact me back for RPRF? I don’t want this to cause a delay in my application. Any thoughts?

  4. Hello deo_gill,

Thanks for spending your valuable time and of course patience for answering all our queries..
    Below is my time line
    AOR – Sep 6th
    Medical passed – 18th Sep
    IP2 changed on – 22 Sep
    Additional Documents – Not Required
    Dependents – 3
    Stream – FSWO

PPR is still pending, its almost 15 days. I see for most the cases PPR is issued in one day.

VO is Ottawa. I had called them last week, they said eligibility check is done, Criminality is done and also the file has been uploaded. He said we have to wait.

Can you please let me what may be the issue here?

    Thanks 🙂

  6. Hi Deo_Gill,
Thank you for the informative article. We have applied from Kuwait. Our timeline is as follows:
    AOR: 15 May 2017
We had passed the medical exam within 2 weeks. We got a mail requesting Police Clearance Certificate of Kuwait on June 24 2017. We submitted the same on July 12 2017. After 2 weeks, the BG check showed “Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check.” Since then, there has been no update on the profile. Can you please let us know as to what you think is the status of our application.
Can we call CIC to check our status? If yes, on what number?

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Deo, My application has been in the IP2 status for more than 2 months now. When I read your article a couple of months back, I thought that it would probably move to IP2 in 7-20 days but it hasn’t. I know there is a long queue right now, but isn’t it taking a lot of time? Anything to worry about?

Also are the criminal checks like the FBI PCC, all done by the time it reaches IP2 stage?

  15. Hi everybody,

I just wanted to share my recent status changes with you as they were somewhat different from what is indicated above.

Ca. 1.5 month after submission of my CEC application I received a request letter to provide more detailed information on my travel history. At this time the “Review of medical results” said “You do not need a medical exam. We will send you..” and the “Background Check” said “We are processing your background check. We will send you..”.

Ca. 1 week after submission of the requested form the “Review of medical results” changed to ” You passed the medical exam” and the “Background Check” status stayed the same. Please note that I did my medical exam upfront and had to submitted the results as part of my application package. I am currently in Canada and I am visa exempt. Maybe this makes a difference..

Now I am in my 3rd month and I assume that CIC has started the security checks. However, I am not 100 % sure about this.

Has anyone made similar experiences? Does CIC usually stick to their six month time frame and does this actually include the passport request, meaning the time required to get you passport back?

    Cheers

By seeing the quick processing times of applicants lately, I’m curious that what’s taking my case so long? Do you think I should order GCMS notes or should I wait a little more?

    Timelines:

I’ve missed to mention earlier that I got ADR about personal history on 13th July which I furnished in the given timeline. Status changed to “we do not need additional docs”. I haven’t been following my cic profile regularly but got my docs status changed to “we’re reviewing your additional docs” around end of October or start of November. Then it again changed to “we do not need additional docs”.

  34. Hi, I am a PNP applicant. I got AOR on July 19, 2017. On Aug 17, my app got updated and BG changed from NA to ” your app is in progress, we will send you a message…” but my meds did not get passed on that day.
Today ( September 10, 2017) I checked my account and it was updated again. Meds changed to passed and BG changed to “we are processing your BG check, will send a message…..”

Does that mean I am in IP2? Also I did not paid RPRF upfront but I paid it on Aug 31 with CIC asking and sent them proof via CSE and got email on September 7 that they have transferred the proof to concerned visa office

      1. Hi, Thanks for your reply.
BG changed to NA the very next day. I believe it is NA3 as per your analysis. Would it change to “we are processing your BG…” and then PPR or direct PPR from NA3?

  35. Hi,
I got my AOR 13th July 2017, got a 60 day extension to provide my FBI PCC on or before sept 24th. I just uploaded it on Sept 8th. My question is this do they just put my application on hold whilst they wait for the FBI PCC. My representative says my status states; application is in progress and you will be notified when there is an update and if any information is needed. Please do you know what happens next. Thank you

    1. Hi

You are in IP2. If the background status has changed recently to this message which you shared then you will soon get the ppr. otherwise, It could be a case where detailed security check is required and can take 1-2 months more.

      All the best.

  37. Hey deo_gill

Thanks for being so helpful and prompt.

One question I have in mind “Does these changes/updates happen usually only happen at Canada work hours “between 8:30 EDT to 5:00 EDT” or these can happen anytime in 24 hours?”

I think why I am asking is because like everybody else I am eager to hear from them however, since 31-Aug (not sure on or before) I am on IP2.

Not sure if you would know the answer..

    Thanks

    1. As per my experience, mostly it happens in Canada work hours but once I have seen medical update happening after work hours also. IP1 to IP2 mostly in canada work hours. Also, if the file has been transferred to Local Visa office then they will follow their own timings.

      Gud luck 🙂

  38. Thanks for the detail explanation. My medical passed yesterday and the BG yesterday changed to “We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information”. Does this means IP1 is skipped and will be done later? Thanks

When I choose the options to get the information, if asks if the application number starts with alphabetical letters (EA E etc.), however we have a UCI number but don’t have a letter by which the application starts. Not sure, where do I get that information. Would you be able to help

    Thanks for the details above.

Per the article above I would be at IP2 on 31 August. Not sure when would I be able to see the next step. However is there a phone number that you could share where I can call and check my status (CIC phone number?)

  43. Thank you very much for the detailed information. It is very helpful. I received a request for Supplementary Travel History and FBI Police Certificate in IP1 stage. I have provided it today. So I guess will have to wait for the status to change to NA again.
Could you please tell me what R10 means?

Thank you a lot for this very useful information.
Please allow me to share my timeline:
    – AOR: 15 May 2017
    – You passed the medical Exam : 30 June 2017
    – BGS : On the 25th July, it moved from “Your application is in Progress. We will send you a message when se start your Background Check” to “We are processing your backround check”

I didn’t get any update ever since and my BGS never showed the “Not applicable” Status.
According to your article, I might be in IP2 right?

Thank you a lot in advance

    1. Hi

      Thanks for the comment.
As per the timeline shared by you. You have moved to IP2 on 25th July. These days IP2 to PPR is taking some time for most of the guys. But as you are stuck here for more than 20 days. You can call and ask CIC about the status if you want. You can also email them.
You will get the required information about the location of your case file.

      Regards,

      1. Hi!

Since you mentioned we can e- mail CIC regarding the status of application. I e mailed them asking if any update is available on my application. My AOR date is June 3rd 2017. They replied in a week saying that we can confirm that ” A decision has been made on your application” and that the concerned office will contact you by e mail. It has been 5 days since I received this reply from them but there is no e mail or update in my CIC account.

        What do you suggest?

        Thanks
